Message from
the President of SCAA
The Society of Chinese Accountants and Auditors (“SCAA”) is proud to be the organizer of the first
World Chinese Accountants Conference (“WCAC”), an event which has been eagerly anticipated for many
years.
In the evening of 18th May, we celebrated the opening of the WCAC with great fanfare which included a
ceremony to illuminate two dragons, representing the silk road on land and at sea. Guests of this ceremony
were warmly welcomed by more than sixty children, singing and dressing up in traditional costumes from the
various regions of the Belt and Road. The WCAC will be held in Hong Kong and Beijing from 19th to 22nd
May.
The emblem of the WCAC has been carefully designed with our heritage in mind. The dragon
symbolizes the motherland, while the body of the dragon links some of the countries along the Belt and
Road. The five major goals of the Initiative: policy co-ordination; facilities connectivity; unimpeded trade;
financial integration; and people-to-people bonds, are expressed by the eye-catching colours of the emblem.
The theme of this first WCAC is “Opportunities of Belt and Road Initiative” which echoes the country’s
drive to develop the “Belt and Road Initiative” as unveiled by President Xi Jinping in late 2013. The Initiative’s
objective is to develop deeper relationships among different regions in Asia, Europe and Africa, and to foster
greater development opportunities for all of its participants. These important objectives help sow the seeds
for this long-awaited gathering of Chinese accountants all over the world.
The “Belt and Road Initiative” is set to bring about numerous business opportunities, in which the
accounting profession and its related service providers will no doubt benefit. Not only that Chinese
accountants have a wealth of international business experience, we are well-positioned to service the
projects under the Belt and Road Initiative by utilising our knowledge of the Chinese financial and accounting
systems and its culture. Through this event, the Society wishes to assist both local and global Chinese
accountants in seizing valuable business opportunities under the Initiative. Beyond, the Society can further
help Chinese accountants at home and abroad to deepen their understanding of the Initiative. We hope that
the Society can take on the important role of acting as a platform for Chinese accountants all over the world
to unite and cooperate for a better future.
