Professor Linda Chelan Li is Professor of Political Science at the Department of Public Policy, City University of Hong Kong. She is also Director of Research Centre for Sustainable Hong Kong (CSHK) and Convenor of Sustainable Hong Kong Research Hub (SusHK Hub). CSHK aims at facilitating synergies and collaborations among the academia, government and community in Hong Kong. She served as Associate Provost (Strategic Planning) of the University from September 2013 to September 2016.

Professor Li stresses the role of collaboration as well as conflict in understanding politics and public policy. Her works have straddled the politics of central-local relations in China, government reforms, rural public finance, equity education, civil society coalitions, and cross-border relations to explore the dynamics of institutional and agency change processes. Her research outcomes are widely published in Chinese and English publications. In recent years, she focuses on the cross-border relations and sustainable development between Hong Kong and the region. She established SusHK Hub and CSHK with the aim of supporting more applied research efforts to meet reallife challenges.

In 2015-16, Professor Li was Project Leader of ‘Sustainability and Social Mobility in Professional Services: A Case Study of Accounting Profession in Hong Kong’, a Public Policy Research (PPR) project funded by the Central Policy Unit (now known as ‘Policy Innovation and Co-ordination Office) of the HKSAR Government. The Study addressed the enhancement of socio-economic sustainability and social mobility in Hong Kong through an examination of the accounting profession as a case study. In 2017, Professor Li and her research team published ‘Transcending the Bottleneck – The Hong Kong Accountancy Profession’ based on the research findings. In the same year, they initiated a 3-year Strategic Public Policy Research (SPPR) project funded by the Central Policy Unit, namely ‘Hong Kong Professional Services in the Co-evolving Belt-Road Initiative: Innovative Agency for Sustainable Development’. Professor Li is the Project Leader.
